st-francis-by-the-sea-salter-path is a parish of the diocese-of-east-carolina.

Mission & Worship

  • Mission: To be instruments of God’s peace by fostering a church family and loving one another through worship, education, and outreach.
  • Worship: Sunday service at 10:00 AM (casual attire, childcare available). Celtic Eucharist on Wednesdays at noon.
  • Demographics: Active parish of ~100 members (growing to 150+ in summer), primarily active retirees and seasonal "cottagers."

Chronological History

  • 1992: First met on April 6 (Gettys, Kemps, Sheltons). Services held in homes, Trinity Center, and Salter Path Methodist Church. Supported by Revs. Bob Holt and Matt Stockard.
  • 1994: Admitted to parish status on February 12.
  • 1997-1999: Land acquired in the Kiawa development (donated by Delu and Benson families). Heimsath Architects retained.
  • 2000: Temporary quarters at NC Aquarium and storefront. Ground broken on October 15.
  • 2002: First service in new building on July 7; consecrated October 12 by Bishop Clifton Daniel III.
  • Clergy: Served by Rev. Frank Fagan (1993), Rev. Mike Cogsdale (1996), and Rev. Dr. Renfro Sproul (1998–2003).
