Daughters of the King Motto
For His Sake …
I am but one, but I am one.
I cannot do everything, but I can do something.
What I can do, I ought to do.
Lord, what will you have me do?
The St. Teresa of Calcutta chapter of the Daughters of the King is a religious order of women that requires a discernment process of study and prayer. Once becoming a Daughter, there is a commitment to worship, service, and evangelism.
Prayer is done individually by members, at the request of parishioners and others, on a confidential basis. Chapter meetings include prayer. Workshops to make and learn about Anglican Prayer Beads have been held for Chapter Daughters and the St. Francis Church community.
Service has been a keystone of the chapter. Monetary donations from individual members support a variety of projects. Contributions have been made to the Episcopal Relief and Development flood and fire funds. Backpacks were made for the children of migrant workers in the Diocese of East Carolina. Money was contributed to Katy’s Kits to buy women’s hygiene products. Quarterly donations are made to the four Daughters of the King funds for mission and outreach, education of Daughters and other women for missionary or other church-related work, the permanent trust fund, and Junior Daughters of the King. Members provide support and Journeying Through Grief booklets to parish members who have had a significant person die.
Evangelism involves sharing our faith journey with others. Wearing the Daughters of the King cross often invites questions from friends and strangers that allow us to speak to our Christian faith. The goal is to share the love of Jesus Christ through our words and actions.
To enhance our spirituality, we have read and discussed “Blessed Are the Women” by Claire McKeever-Burgett at our bimonthly meetings.
Membership includes Pam Ball, Kay Brackins, Jery Rita Brunton, Joan Gracie, Carol Holland, Susan Johnson, Linda Keeter, Grace Kemp, Laura Leslie, Barb McCreary, Marion Morris, Lisa Park, Beth Parker, the Rev. Deacon Robin Smith, Rosemary Unger and Marion Youngblood.
Please feel free to contact any of these women to make a prayer request or fill out a card and place it in the box located at the back of the sanctuary near the Baptismal font. Your request is confidential and will be kept in prayer for a month at a time.
